Cavities are holes in the tooth resulting from acid attacks. They generally start in the enamel and can spread to the softer inner layer of the tooth. Fluoride helps prevent cavities by slowing the breakdown of enamel and speeding up the remineralization process. The new enamel crystals that form are harder, larger and more resistant to acids. Common sources of fluoride are fluoridated drinking water, toothpastes such as Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste and mouth rinse. While tap water contains fluoride, most bottled water does not contain optimal fluoride levels. If you prefer bottled drinking water, ask your dentist for recommendations on how to get proper amounts of fluoride. He or she may recommend that you use high-concentration fluoride treatments.

Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal (gum) disease. It is an infection of the tissues surrounding the teeth. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, which is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. To avoid gingivitis, brush your teeth at least twice a day, preferably with a power toothbrush and an anti-gingivitis toothpaste like Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste, and floss once a day with a floss to remove food particles and plaque. Also using an anti-bacterial rinse, such as Crest Pro-Health Rinse, can help control plaque and gingivitis. Visit your dentist regularly for oral exams and cleanings.

Plaque is a sticky, colourless deposit of bacteria that continuously forms on the tooth surface. To help prevent the buildup of plaque, be sure to floss once a day and brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste designed to fight plaque, like Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste. Crest Pro-Health Rinse is also a good choice as it's formulated to fight plaque. Eating well-balanced meals and brushing after snacks will reduce the formation of plaque. Visit your dental professional regularly for oral exams and cleanings.

Sensitivity is a common condition. In healthy teeth, porous tissue called dentin is protected by your gums and by your teeth's hard enamel outer layer. Dentin can become exposed due to receding gums, fractured or chipped teeth or erosion. Microscopic holes in the dentin, called tubules, connect to the nerve triggering pain when irritated by certain foods and beverages. To reduce sensitivity, your dental professional may recommend using a soft-bristle toothbrush to protect gums, using a fluoride rinse or gel, or using a desensitizing toothpaste such as Crest Pro-Health.

Tartar Buildup is a deposit that forms when plaque hardens on the tooth. It can trap stains on teeth and cause discolouration. While tartar buildup can only be removed by a dental professional, you can avoid tartar buildup by removing plaque. To prevent the buildup of plaque, be sure to brush your teeth at least twice daily, preferably with a tartar-control fluoride toothpaste like Crest Pro-Health, and use a floss once a day. Always visit your dentist regularly for oral exams and cleanings.

Stains can form on the surface of the tooth enamel where the coloured molecules found in things such as red wine, coffee, tea, tobacco, certain fruits and sodas can attach to the tooth surface. Whitening toothpastes, such as Crest Pro-Health, help to remove surface stains and protect against new stains for a whiter and brighter smile. To remove stains below the enamel surface, use a whitening system with hydrogen peroxide like Crest Whitestrips.

Bad Breath can be caused by bacteria in the mouth, often on the tongue. Bad breath can also be associated with dry mouth, certain medical conditions, tobacco use and some foods. Make sure to brush twice a day and floss to remove odour-causing bacteria from the mouth, tongue and teeth. Anti-bacterial rinses, such as Crest Pro-Health Rinse, are also effective at treating breath malodour because they kill odour-causing bacteria.
